Questions for Dr. Stern
About Your Urgent Care Center
94. We have an urgent care/walk in clinic. Are we supposed to use the 11 point of service code for Non-Urgent visits with any insurance OTHER than an HMO...
And then use a 20 for Urgent care only...??
Every payor is different. Each payor will generally want either POS-11 or POS-20. I have not heard of any payor wanting the urgent care center to mix and match POS, based on the type of presenting problem. One exception would be the mixed urgent care and family practice, where each operates under separate MCO contracts and separate TINs. In this case the payor may expect the family practice to use POS-11 and the urgent care to use POS-20.
